The Class of 2006 was awarded 2007 WEA Civil Rights Award

Quang Nguyen (CLP 2004) was interviewed as executive director of the Vietnamese American Economic Development Association for an April 28, 2007 Northwest Asian Weekly article “Critics protest plans for ‘mall’”

Debadutta Dash (CLP 2005), Eileen Aparis (CLP 2004), and Thao Tran (CLP 2001) were all featured in a Valentine’s Day 2007 Northwest Asian Weekly article, “What is your most treasured memory of falling in love?”

Tatsuo Nakata (CLP 2000) was eulogized in a number of articles in the International Examiner, the Northwest Asian Weekly, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer, and The Seattle Times that covered the tragic circumstances of his death and to honor his beautiful life.

Truc Thanh Nguyen (CLP 2004) was featured for her work on the Biloxi Language Access Project in the October 2006 Colors Northwest magazine cover article, “The Long Road Home,” and in a September 2006 Northwest Asian Weekly article, ‘Volunteer says damage worse than imagined.”

Monica Ghosh (CLP 2002) and Cynthia Brothers (CLP 2005) published an editorial on behalf of the NAPAWF Seattle chapter in the May 17, 2006 International Examiner, “No separate peace: Immigration reform is a woman’s issue”

Brenda Sevilla (CLP 2002) was interviewed as a community member in the January 7th, 2006, Northwest Asian Weekly article "2006: What can the Asian community look forward to?"

Cynthia Brothers (CLP 2005) wrote an editorial, "Food Stamp program cuts would harm API community," on behalf of the Seattle chapter of NAPAWF (National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum) in the December 21st, 2005 International Examiner.

Kyle Funakoshi (CLP 2004) was in the December 17th, 2005 Northwest Asian Weekly "Names in the News."

Viet Shelton (CLP 2002) was featured in a December 7th, 2005 International Examiner news brief, "Viet Shelton hired on at Washington State Democrats."

Dawn Rego (CLP 2004) wrote a feature article on the 2005 CLP Class for the November 2005 Northwest Hawai'i Times, including quotes from CLP Class of 2005 participants Paka Soon and Joshua Heim.

ACLF is currently in the process of gathering information about alumni accomplishments as the result of their experience with our Community Leaders Program. Below is a sampling of some of the ways in which our alumni are serving the community, both in a volunteer capacity and professionally, while continuing to build their skills.

  • Christie Verdadero (CLP 2005) recently returned from a fellowship in Mindoro, Phillipines. She worked with a non-governmental organization that focuses on assisting the indigenous peoples of Mindoro, the Mangyan, regain their ancestral land.
  • Joshua Heim (CLP 2005) is the Exhibits Developer At the Wing Luke Asian Museum.
  • Liezl Rebugio (CLP 2004) is the Anti-Traficking Project Director for the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF).
  • Kyle Funakoshi (CLP 2004) is beginning his term as 2007 president of the Seattle chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League.
  • Jill Sirikantraporn (CLP 2003) was inspired by her work as a youth violence prevention coordinator to pursue a doctoral program in clinical psychology at Antioch University.
  • Charlie Chang (CLP 2002) is executive director of the Hmong Association of Washington and serves on the board of the State of Washington Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs (CAPAA).
  • Monica Ghosh (CLP 2002) is the 2007 co-chair of the Seattle chapter of the National Asian Pacific American Women’s Forum (NAPAWF) and serves as legislative aide to King County Councilmember Dow Constantine.
  • Doug Honma (CLP 2001) recently finished his term as 2006 president of the Seattle chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League.
  • Julien Loh (CLP 2000) continues to serve on the ACLF Board of Directors and chairs the Recruitment Committee.
